CHC Helicopter has announced that they will be providing a special helicopter service to remove corona virus patients from North Sea installations.
The new service will be operational by the end of this week and will be able to bring confirmed and suspected Covid-19 sufferers back to shore.
Unofficially named the 'corona copter' the service will be available to Total, Shell, CNR, Taqa, Equinor, EnQuest and Spirit Energy. It is believed other operators are in talks with other helicopter companies about providing a similar service.
SAR helicopters are available to remove individuals from offshore installations but only if their condition is serious and there is a risk to life. It had been unclear until today how companies would deal with other confirmed or suspected cases.
The helicopter crew will be isolated from passengers by the removal of seats and will wear additional protective equipment.
Further hygiene procedures and cleaning will take place to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.
