Van Oord, a Netherlands-based offshore engineering and services provider, has successfully concluded the installation of foundations and inter-array cables for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm. Situated in the German Baltic Sea, the wind farm is being developed by Iberdrola. Van Oord used its heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen to install the monopiles earlier in 2023, followed by the installation of the transition pieces to complete the wind turbine foundations. The cable-laying vessel Nexus, along with the remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) trencher Dig-It, handled the inter-array cable installation, ensuring they were buried to the required depth in the challenging soft soil conditions of the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm consists of 50 foundations and inter-array cables, with a production capacity of 476 MW. It is located 30 kilometers northeast of the island of Rügen. The wind farm, once operational, is expected to provide renewable energy to approximately 475,000 households and contribute to an annual reduction of nearly 1 million tons of carbon emissions. The termination and testing activities for the inter-array cables are currently underway and anticipated to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.
